Consultation and Education

Collaboration with all professionals, teachers, and caregivers is paramount to ensure your child’s success in multiple environments, including home, school, and in the community. The majority of treatment services take place in-clinic at Kids First, however we frequently go into homes and schools to provide support and recommendations.

Parent Support

Parent/caregiver meetings are essential for your child’s progress and success. We provide regular parent sessions (currently virtual or phone) to ensure you feel equipped to carry out strategies and recommendations that have proven beneficial for your child in-session. With parent participation and implementation of strategies at home, progress happens faster and reaches further.

Teacher Support

Create a classroom where every student feels seen, understood, and supported! Kids First OTs are excellent at modifying environments on a minimal budget to facilitate both individual and classroom success. From sensory-friendly setups to personalized visuals, you'll learn how to streamline your teaching, reduce classroom disruptions, and create a supportive environment where every child can thrive. Make your teaching life easier - let us help you build a classroom that works for everyone, including you!

Picky Eating Program

Is your child a picky eater? Our program is here to help! With our step-by-step approach, you can expect your child to tolerate a greater variety of foods, feel more comfortable at the table, and increase their interest in food. Contact us for more information.

Home Visits

We provide in-home consultations to observe certain skills and provide recommendations for the following:

  • Observing mealtime and offering sensory, behavioural, and seating strategies

  • Observing dressing, bathroom tasks, morning routines, and providing adaptations and recommendations to address sequencing and sensory concerns

  • Observing parent-child play to then model strategies and grade adaptations to encourage functional play patterns

School Observation

Classroom observations assist with understanding your child’s sensory preferences and dislikes, and allow us to determine the functional cause of any avoidance, disruptive, or negative behaviour.

When observing in the classroom or school setting, we analyze the child, environment, and task in order to provide specific and effective recommendations to improve overall function.

School & Team Meetings

In order to maximize functional participation and success in multiple environments, we can assist with goal-setting and provide supportive strategies during IEP meetings. If your child has a team of service providers, we can collaborate during team meetings to discuss how best to support your child’s progress and ensure consistency.
